EXCAVAtions”

Exploring the cosmos and tectonic shifts through bold and unpredictable one of a kind ceramic works, thoughtfully crafted with Night on the Sun in mind.

The first guest artist show at Night on the Sun features pieces that are heavily influenced by space/the cosmos/galaxies, but also arctic landscapes, American deserts and the never ending exploration of clay in different forms.

Reflections, striations, cracks and layers speak to the bold nature of these seminal ceramic vessels and mirrors in porcelain and stoneware by Sarah Cihat.

Designer Sarah Cihat graduated from the Parsons School of Design in 2003 and currently works from her studio in Nashville, TN.

Clay is her favorite medium and she is inspired by how it becomes immediately 3 dimensional - and she gravitates towards the warmth and feel of porcelain. Sarah loves the challenge of making innovative molds and the math and geometry behind the process.

Cihat’s work has been featured in numerous publications, including Vogue, Elle, The New York Times, Surface, Wallpaper*, Food & Wine, NYLON, Bon Appetit, Domino, LA Times, Paper, The Washington Post, House Beautiful and Metropolitan Home—and in exhibitions at the St. Etienne International Design Biennial, Salone di Mobile, Museum of Arts and Design Object Factory and Fragiles Exhibit and Book in Miami, Berlin and Dubai.
